Which networks you can top up
Three providers share the mobile market in Ghana. MTN is by far the largest: roughly seven in ten connections run on it. Next comes Telecel, known as Vodafone Ghana until 2024. The third is AT, formerly AirtelTigo. With Fonmoney you can top up all three.
Which number belongs to which network
The first three digits usually tell you the provider. MTN uses 024, 025, 053, 054, 055 and 059, Telecel 020 and 050, AT 026, 027, 056 and 057. In Ghana, though, people can keep their number when they switch provider. If in doubt, ask the recipient which network they use.
How long a top-up takes
Once your payment is confirmed, the credit goes to the provider. It is usually on the phone within a few minutes, and the recipient doesn't need to do anything. They can check their balance with *124#, which works on all three networks.
