What happened to the Tarjeta Clásica?

The AIS card is processed through FINCIMEX — an entity on the U.S. sanctions list since May 2026. That's why we've removed the product from our offering. Here are the two articles that explain the background and show how you can still send to Cuba:

What is the Tarjeta Clásica?

The Tarjeta Clásica Cuba (also known as the Clásica Tarjeta de Incentivos) was a prepaid card in USD, issued by FINCIMEX (Financiera CIMEX S.A.). It was non-personalised, PIN-protected and valid for five years. It could be used to pay at POS terminals and withdraw CUP at ATMs in Cuba.

Fonmoney no longer offers top-ups or new orders for the Tarjeta Clásica. As an alternative you can use the MLC card (bank card with MLC balance), cash delivery (USD, 2–5 business days) or explore all options on the Cuba services page.

You can still support your family in Cuba through Fonmoney: with the MLC card (bank card with MLC balance), cash delivery (USD, 2–5 business days) or a bank transfer to an MLC account at BANDEC, BPA or Banco Metropolitano.

The bank transfer to Cuba took two days, and my family got a text as soon as the money arrived. With Fonmoney I know it gets there.
